Laura Jayne campbell

Hello, I’m Laura

I am a Wellington based creative with a passion for animation, illustration, and visual storytelling. Whether it's creating motion graphics in After Effects or crafting designs in Illustrator and Photoshop, I love bringing ideas to life. With a Bachelor’s Degree and Graduate Diploma in Applied Arts, I got my start at Psychoactive Studios, where a 3-month internship turned into a permanent design role. Since then, I’ve built a diverse portfolio spanning packaging design, marketing campaigns, animation, and social media content.Currently, I’m the Design & Social Media Manager at Tailgunner, a digital marketing agency in Lower Hutt. I’ve led projects like an interactive, illustrated career roadmap for Civil Contractors NZ and manage social content for a range of clients.

Career Roadmap - CCNZ

Client: Civil contractors new zealand (CCNZ)

While working for Tailgunner, we were commissioned by Civil Contractors New Zealand (CCNZ) to develop a comprehensive, interactive career roadmap for civil infrastructure construction. My role within the project was to come up with the illustration style, design the map layout in a way that takes users on a journey, and develop the illustrations for over 50 roles within the industry as well as building the environment in which these roles would operate. The vision was to create a map that was engaging, easy to follow and that felt inherently like a slice of Aotearoa complete with native trees, and iconic New Zealand houses.See a preview of the map below or explore the interactive map for yourself here:

Restorative Sleep & Safe Driving Tips

Client: Van Schaik Health & Safety Solutions

I developed a set of illustrations alongside a series of brochures and posters for a client who needed printed material to give out at a workshop about combatting workplace fatigue and fatigue while driving. The illustrations I created were designed to be easy to follow for anyone viewing the brochures whether they spoke English or another languageProgrammes UsedAdobe Illustrator | Adobe InDesign

Tui Tirohanga

Client: Psychoactive Studios

Every picture tells a story. What if Aotearoa’s most pivotal historic events could be conveyed with a single illustration? This was the question that this project intended to answer.Tui Tirohanga follows a Tui through the history of Aotearoa, from the time before human life arrived on our shores to the events shaping our future today. The events range from the most well known, to lesser known and highlight some of the most influential Maori people and the struggles and triumphs they have faced since they settled on our shores, as well as some key Maori Myths and Legends.Programmes UsedAdobe Illustrator | Adobe InDesign | Adobe After Effects

Tales & Feathers

Client: Te Auaha (Student Project)

Inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories, and the diversity of our native birds, this project aimed to explore the stories of our native birds through illustration. The illustrations were built entirely from circles on Adobe Illustrator. However before I took them to Illustrator, each illustration began as a pencil sketch. I took care to honour the more organic forms of each element as well as work out how these forms could be built from circles. The result was dynamic, geometric yet organic illustrations.Programmes UsedAdobe Illustrator
